Where are you located?

Turkey River AXEperience is located right below the Elkader Fitness Center (305 High ST NE). To access our facility, please access the road located on the north side of the Fitness center (look for the bright arrow). There will be ample parking available around our facility. We are a short walking distance to downtown Elkader!

Is there an age limit?

AS Long as the physical ability to throw an axe and follow our coaching instructions all can now thow. Throwers ages 15 and under must have an adult with them. Ages 16 -17 do not not need to be accompanied by an adult but their guardian must sign their waiver.

Will there be training?

Definitely! Our certified coaches will demonstrate proper safety and axe throwing techniques. Coaches are present throughout the experience for questions and to help you master your bullseye and learn how to throw an axe. Become an AXEpert and join our team by filling out this Employment form!

What happens if I arrive late?

If you are late, we will always try our best to keep you to your booked time, but if this interferes with anyone else’s experience, the Turkey River AXEperience staff reserve the right to re-book your session to another time. We cannot extend your lane time, as it would interfere with other scheduled bookings. The best way to avoid this is to show up 15 minutes early so you can sign in, and you’ll be ready to go!

Do I have to wear special clothing?

All spectators and axe throwers MUST wear closed toe shoes! Dress comfortably and in clothing that will allow easy movement of arms. Also, we love flannel in the warmer months!

Is axe throwing dangerous?

Safety is our number one concern! Our Turkey River AXEperience coaches will start your time by briefly walking you through the entire process of throwing axes and ensure you have a safe and enjoyable experience. Each lane is specifically built to meet all WATL safety standards. DUE TO THE BAR WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE SERVICE AND DISCONTINUE ANYONE WHO IS NOT BEING SAFE .

Can I bring my own alcohol or does Turkey River AXEperience sell alcohol?

AS OF MARCH 5TH 2026 WE ARE NOW A BAR ***NO MORE BYOB**** FOOD AND ALCOHOL IS AVAILABLE .

Can I bring in my own food?
NO. WE NOW ARE OFFERING FOOD SUCH AS PIZZA, PRETZELS AND OTHER MEALS FOLLOW ON FACEBOOK FOR WEEKLY UPDATES

Do I have to participate or can I watch?

All visitors to Turkey River AXEperience must complete a waiver, even if they are not throwing. You are welcome to watch other members of your party throw if there is enough space. The lane maximum of 6 people is still in place due to the space in the lane area.

Do I have to make a reservation?

NO WALKINS ARE WELCOME IF THERE IS AN OPEN LANE HOWEVER RESERVATIONS ARE APPRECIATED. You CAN make your reservation online in advance on our website. Our reservation system will show you when there is availability. All participants will complete their waiver prior to arrival. If you did not complete the waiver online when reserving your lane, you can download and bring with you to help speed up the check-in process.

Do I bring my own AXE?

Turkey River AXEperience will provide you with all the equipment you need. LEAGUE AND WATL AXES ARE WELCOME TO BE USED AFTER STAFF INSPECTION

How much will it cost?

$20 per hour per person or $27.50 per person for a 90 minute session. Please make your reservation on our website through the online booking. 

Do AXEperts accept tips?

Tipping is never expected but always appreciated. Our axeperts will do their best to make your experience fun and exciting. It’s nice to show them some love! Become an axepert today — fill out an Employment form and we’ll be in touch if your application is considered.

What should I bring?

All adult guests are required to bring a valid, government-issued ID. You MUST wear closed-toe shoes (and no high heels). You will not be permitted to play if you do not wear closed-toe shoes. Please also bring: DETERMINATION, ENTHUSIASM, AND A COMPETITIVE SPIRIT!!!

Is there league play available?

YES. WE HAVE LEAGUES PLEASE CHECK FACEBOOK OR MESSAGE FOR MORE INFORMATION

What is the cancellation policy?

We understand things come up, and will gladly refund you if you cancel a minimum of  24 hours in advance of your scheduled booking. Refer to our booking scheduler to cancel your reservation.

Can I rent the place?
Absolutely! Please send us an email at turkeyriveraxe@gmail.com and one of AXEperts will get back to you in 24 hours!
